I LOVE A MYSTERY- Furnished by the Bamontes of Tornado Creek Publication and selected and entered by Robert A. Clouse.

This is a Shay locomotive. It was a slow moving narrow guage steam engine, designed to pull a number of rail cars out of the woods and haul logs to the lumber mills.

With horse power dwindling in the logging busness, it was only the beginning of the end of draft horses.

Because each of these photos are unidetified it is difficlt to nail down the location. My gut feeling says this is Fort Spokane.

The Northport livery stable in the throws of transition. Horses, automobiles to motor cycles all in one fell swoop.

A pencil scetch of Fort Colville.

As per T. Strong, this is the Fruitland Co.Irrigation Flume taken from the Colville River near Meyer Falls and carried by flume and ditch 9 miles to south of Kettle Falls WA. to farms and orchards. Thank you T. Strong and thanks for the compliment on our Website.

This 1907 photo of Cedonia next to the Columbia River is from the Richard Dooly Collection.

Clayton, Washington, quite recently Allen's Siding and prior to the 1908 fire. The train depot is the first one and the power lines are rather small depicting they were installed by WB & L who supplied all of Clayton's power until electricity was available & purchased from outside sources.

This photo may just posibly rank as one of the most Historic photos of this Web Page. Note the 4 horse team hitched to what almost certainly is a STAGECOACH. Even the drivers seat is loaded to capacity with passengers. Unfortunatlly the horseman to the right obscurres the view of rest of the Stagecoach. This adds to the folklore about a line running from Spokane Falls North to Colville & beyond. Mr Bamonte and Nita Bronson of the SCHS society are in pursuit of proof.

To the contrary heavy frieght wagons had the same feature as a Stagecoach utilizing a high seat for visability as well as keeping a sharp eye on the horse. However most stages were pulled by a four horse team while freight wagons might have double that.

The Ox Bow incident at Arden Washington

The Belle's of the Ball.

Poor Boy country. Address unknown.

Hang on Little Buddy, it's only 8 miles to Allen's siding.

We would imagine this is a Grange Hall being moved somewhere. We don't know. We do know it is not Bob Herndene moving the Clayton Grange.

The first bathroom with running water.

A spiffy new Fire Engine.

The finest hardware store in Stevens County. It has a pot bellied stove.

A pretty setting and the proud owner.

Lumber sales were brisk during this era.

Business was booming for a professional photographer in the early days

This is Marcus WA. country and the picturesqe Great Columbia.

A settlement 'Down in the valley.' It would be great to take a photo from this vantage point today. Would it be prosperous or deserted?

Some towns sprung up but were limited in size by surrounding hills.

Check out the two convertables. They have a sports car look to them.

Now we swing quite a few miles Southwest of Clayton to Davenport. This town got slugged with the rough weather just prior to Claton getting it full bore.

This must have been sheer madness.

Unusual to see a free standing meat market.

Kilns were fired by wood, then coal, and oil. Brick making today has lost the glamor of the Roman brick, the red and buff rug, the clinker and even the plain old common.
